Turin has a wide array of museums . In addition to the world famous Egyptian Museum , second only to the Cairo Museum, and the main museums, new and innovative collections have opened, like the popular National Museum of Cinema, or the soon-to-open Museum of Oriental Art. After closing for refurbishing to comply with safety regulations, the municipal Civic Museums will reopen under the management of the Turin Museum Foundation.
Restructuring continues on Palazzo Madama, which is scheduled to reopen to the public in 2006, and the Gallery of Modern Art will soon expand into new exhibition areas. The vast art city collections, together with the works from many others, will be displayed by the new Museum of Oriental Art.
Since 1998, visitors can purchase annual museum membership cards that permit access to over 120 museums (and temporary exhibitions) in Turin and Piedmont. Nearly 30,000 cards are sold each year.
Museiscuola , an Internet site dedicated to museum pedagogy and education in cultural heritage, has gained national recognition for its content and design.
